Purpose of This Article
This article explains a known issue where an Oncam camera firmware upgrade may fail during installation, returning an HTTP-related error. It outlines the likely cause and provides clear steps to successfully complete the upgrade.
Root Cause
Firmware upgrades require a stable and uninterrupted connection between the camera and the computer performing the upgrade. Upgrade failures may occur when:
Other systems on the network are actively communicating with the camera
The camera is connected to a recording or management network during the upgrade
The web browser interrupts or times out during the firmware upload
The upgrade computer has multiple active network connections (e.g., Ethernet and Wi-Fi)
These conditions can interfere with the firmware transfer and cause the upgrade to fail.
Resolution Steps
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
1. Use a Different Web Browser
Access the camera using an alternative supported web browser and retry the firmware upgrade.
2. Isolate the Camera
Temporarily disconnect the camera from any recording or management systems.
Connect only the camera and the upgrade computer on a simple, isolated network.
3. Disable Wi-Fi on the Upgrade Computer
If your computer has both wired and wireless connections:
Disable Wi-Fi
Use only a wired Ethernet connection during the upgrade
This ensures consistent communication with the camera.
4. Retry the Firmware Upgrade
Once the camera is isolated and the network connection is stable, restart the firmware upgrade process.
Expected Result
After isolating the camera, disabling Wi-Fi, and retrying the upgrade using a different browser, the firmware upgrade should complete successfully.
