Issue
When configuring a newly installed, out-of-the-box Oncam C-Series camera, the camera is successfully discovered using the Oncam C-Series Camera Configuration Tool (CCT). However, clicking Login and attempting to sign in fails, and the camera status displays a red X.
This can occur because a new C-Series camera does not have default factory login credentials. Administrator credentials must first be created before the camera can be configured.
Possible Causes
CCT Login Display Issue
There is a known CCT issue where the Actions column may incorrectly display Login after a new camera is discovered when it should display Set User ID.
Because an out-of-the-box camera does not have default factory credentials, attempting to log in normally will fail until credentials have been created.
Firmware and CCT Compatibility
Differences between the firmware version installed on the camera and the version of CCT being used may prevent CCT and the camera from successfully completing the authentication process.
If the normal first-time credential setup does not work through CCT, the credentials can also be created directly through the camera's web interface.
Workaround 1: Set the User ID Through CCT
- Discover the camera using the Oncam C-Series Camera Configuration Tool.
- In the Actions column, click Login.
Enter identical values for the username and password.
For example:
- Username:
admin - Password:
admin
Or:
- Username:
Oncam - Password:
Oncam
Important: The username and password must match at this stage. These are not the final credentials being assigned to the camera.
- Username:
- Click Login.
Return to the CCT discovery window and check the Actions column on the right side of the camera entry.
The option that previously displayed Login should now display Set User ID.
- Click Set User ID.
- Enter the desired username and password that will be used to authenticate to the camera.
- Click Set User ID to save the new credentials.
- Once the credentials have been successfully created, the Actions column should change to Configure.
- Click Configure to open the camera user interface.
You can now continue configuring the camera's network, video, and other settings.
Workaround 2: Configure the Camera Through a Web Browser
If the Set User ID option does not appear or Workaround 1 does not resolve the issue, create the administrator credentials directly through the camera's web interface.
Locate the camera's link-local IP address in CCT. This will typically be in the following range:
169.254.xx.xx- Open a supported web browser, such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
- Enter the camera's
169.254.xx.xxIP address into the browser address bar and press Enter. - Because the camera has not previously been configured, the camera should display a prompt to create administrator credentials.
- Enter the desired username and password and save the credentials.
- When prompted, log in using the newly created credentials.
- The camera web interface should now be accessible, allowing you to continue configuring the network, video, and other camera settings.
