Overview
In some cases, a camera may fail to restore its video stream after adjusting the time and time zone to match the connected DVR. This issue can occur due to time zone compatibility, authentication or configuration synchronization issues, incorrect network settings, cached device sessions, or port mapping inconsistencies between the camera and the DVR.
Resolution Steps
Follow these steps in order to restore the camera video stream:
-
Verify Time, Time Zone, and Network Settings
- Confirm the camera’s system time and time zone match the DVR’s configuration.
- Verify that the camera IP address and subnet mask are correct for the DVR network. An incorrect subnet can prevent the DVR from communicating with the camera and cause the video stream to fail.
- Confirm the camera and DVR are on the expected network range and that there are no IP address conflicts.
-
Apply any necessary corrections and reboot the camera if required.
-
Try an Alternate Time Zone Format
- For most U.S.-based time zones, two different time zone formats should be available. For example:
-
Eastern:
US/EasternorAmerica/New_York -
Central:
US/CentralorAmerica/Chicago -
Mountain:
US/MountainorAmerica/Denver -
Pacific:
US/PacificorAmerica/Los_Angeles
-
Eastern:
- If the camera is configured with the correct regional time zone but video does not stream, try selecting the alternate time zone format for the same region.
-
Apply the change and allow a few minutes for the camera and DVR to synchronize before attempting to stream video again.
- For most U.S.-based time zones, two different time zone formats should be available. For example:
-
Verify or Update the Camera Credentials
- If changing between the available time zone formats does not resolve the streaming issue, verify the camera credentials configured within the VMS/DVR.
- Some VMS/DVR integrations require valid administrator credentials so the DVR can log in to the camera and successfully apply camera configuration changes through custom profiles defined within the DVR's camera plugin or driver.
- The camera login is typically:
-
Username:
admin -
Password:
Oncam01!
-
Username:
- Update the credentials within the DVR or camera configuration as required.
-
Wait a few minutes after making the change, then attempt to stream video again.
-
Reboot the DVR
- If the camera still does not stream after verifying the time zone and camera credentials, reboot the DVR.
- This can clear cached camera sessions and force the DVR to reconnect to the camera using the updated time zone, credentials, and configuration information.
-
After the DVR has fully restarted, allow a few minutes for the cameras to reconnect and test the video stream again.
-
Assign a New Static IP Address
- If the issue continues, update the camera with a new static IP address within the same network range as the DVR.
- Ensure there are no IP conflicts with other devices on the network.
-
Allow the DVR time to reconnect to the camera and test the video stream.
-
Reassign the Camera Port on the DVR
- If changing the camera IP address does not resolve the issue, remove the camera from its existing DVR port, for example Port 28.
- Add the camera to a new available port, for example Port 33.
- Allow the DVR to initialize the new camera connection and attempt to stream video again.
After performing these steps, the camera video stream should restore successfully.
